Rundsporthalle, Waiblingen (D)

The Rundsporthalle („round gymnasium“) in Waiblingen was built about 30 years ago. The indoor sports complex has a roof made of 4 mm prestressed steel plate. Initial refurbishment was needed at the end of the 1970s. A coating of about 3.5 cm of sprayed polyurethane foam was applied to the outer surface of the steel roof. This exposed thermal insulation layer was severely damaged in the following years as a result of inadequate UV protection. Originally, it was planned to use mineral fibre boards to replace the layer of sprayed foam which had been destroyed. However, as the new insulation would have been too heavy (19 - 20 kg/m2) to be supported by the steel roof, another, lighter solution was needed. BASF had the ideal solution. CONIROOF 2103 is a polyurethanebased EOTA-approved membrane system that can be sprayed onto polyurethane foam. First, a 7 - 8 cm layer of polyurethane foam was applied; this was then covered

by a polyurethane membrane to provide protection against wind and weather. This lightweight system (8.5 kg/m2) offers durable and reliable protection as well as effective thermal insulation.
